Home Is Higher by Everwild Collective
Backstory: Some people just don’t get why we keep going up. This song is for the ones who do. The ones who feel more at home the higher they go. We wanted to capture that sense that something up there calls to you. Eric dedicates this song to his friend Jen Day Denton, who inspired it.
Lyrics:
Morning hum in the valley grid
Crosswalks beep, commuters grit
Same old story, painted smiles
Everybody rushin’ every day, every mile
I know the moves, I play along
Hit my marks, don’t get me wrong
But my eyes keep driftin’ east
Where the mountains wake this city from sleep
Midday sun on concrete ground
Phone keeps buzzin’ as the world spins ‘round
Clock keeps tickin’ without rest
Like it knows where I’d rather be than a desk
I’ve been starin’ at those peaks
Like they’re starin’ back at me
Sayin’, “Hey there, come up here any old time,
Home is higher”
It’s not that the city’s wrong
Just feels like somethin’s missin’
Like breathin’ cloudy air
When you know there’s more to livin’
There’s more sky where the peaks stand tall
More truth up high where the summits call
I don’t need much just to feel alive
If I’m wishin’, I won’t lie
I wanna be up on the rugged ridgelines
Where my heart don’t fit inside straight lines
Yeah, I’m fine, but I’d feel lighter
Where the mountains lift me up and the soul reaches higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
I like people, I like plans
But I crave the places where connection happens
Love a trail that doesn’t care
If I’m early, late, or anywhere
I don’t need a grand escape
Just a little less pretend
Where the trees are my teachers
And the rivers bend
Give me snowstorms, give me cold
Give me stories not yet told
Give me air that smells like pine
And a reason to forget about the time
I don’t need to win the race
Just move honest through the space
If I’m gonna spend my breath
I want it foggin’ up the mountain air instead
It’s not about runnin’ away
Or sayin’ goodbye forever
Just lettin’ life feel real
We’re more alive when we’re higher
There’s more sky where the peaks stand tall
More truth up high where the summits call
I don’t need much just to feel alive
If I’m wishin’, I won’t lie
I wanna be up on the rugged ridgelines
Where my heart don’t fit inside straight lines
Yeah, I’m fine, but I’d feel lighter
Where the mountains lift me up and the soul reaches higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
Maybe it’s not a place, maybe it’s a way
Of listenin’ closer to what keeps callin’ your name
Maybe it’s snow, maybe it’s stone
Or maybe it’s just feelin’ like you finally got home
There’s more sky where the peaks stand tall
More truth up high where the summits call
I don’t need much just to feel alive
If I’m wishin’, I won’t lie
I wanna be up on the rugged ridgelines
Where my heart don’t fit inside straight lines
Yeah, I’m fine, but I’d feel lighter
Where the mountains lift me up and the soul reaches higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
We’re doin’ alright
But we’re meant for higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
Home is higher
